Desterradxs
As part of our ongoing project Artistic Resistance, Political Resilience, we are opening applications for a week-long residency and collaborative learning space in partnership with Desterradxs — a project rooted in political and cultural resistance through the art of marginalised groups from South America and its diaspora.
The Lab brings together artists, community organizers, and researchers from all disciplines and backgrounds to collectively explore how art can function as a tool of resistance, solidarity, and political imagination. This is a space for those working from decolonial and/or queer perspectives — whether your practice is rooted in visual art, performance, writing, music, digital media, community organizing, research, or any other form entirely.
How Does the Lab Work?
The week is built around the Teach One, Learn One model — a peer-learning format in which every participant is both a learner and a facilitator. Each participant contributes a session from their own practice, knowledge, or experience, and in turn learns from everyone else in the group. There are no teachers and no students — just practitioners in conversation with one another.
As part of your application, you will be asked to propose a session you would like to offer to the group — something from your own practice, knowledge, or experience that feels worth sharing. Each session runs for approximately 2 hours. If your session requires specific materials or equipment, let us know in advance — we will do our best to help, though our resources are limited.
The Lab begins on the evening of 2 August with a collective dinner and runs through to 7 August.
Who Can Apply?
6 participants will be selected — 3 based locally in Stuttgart, 3 coming from outside the region. We welcome applications from artists, community organizers, and researchers working across all disciplines and backgrounds. We are particularly interested in practices that engage with resistance, solidarity, and political imagination, and actively encourage applications from people working from decolonial and/or queer perspectives.
